2024 Spotify Strategy

Release Frequently

Release singles frequently. Some people have success releasing a song every week, others find success releasing a song every 8 weeks. How ever often your releasing songs choose a content strategy and stick to it, maybe that’s creating a TikTok video everyday after release or it’s releasing a new long form video (Music Video, Lyric Video, Etc.) The point is you want consistent frequent content.

“Release Frequently. Create your content. And don’t stop until something works.” -Nic D

Create Content

Let’s be honest, creating content for TikTok and other social media platforms kind of sucks, a lot of us don’t like to do it but it’s a necessary evil. The best way to get over this is to have fun with it. Social media content shouldn’t be overthought, lots of times it’s the simple meme or quick 5 sec video that ends of blowing up.

Be authentic! People can tell when you’re trying to be like the other people on social media, it’s inauthentic and it’s unappealing. If you feel like you don’t fit in with the other social media creators/artists that’s good, be yourself, be authentic and it will carve out a niche for yourself instead of drowning in the sea of creators trying be someone they’re not.

Albums

EP’s and LP’s are generally considered unnecessary for unestablished artists still trying to grow their fanbase. But hey I get it, there’s an art in creating an album, personally my favorite way to connect with an artist is by listening to one of their albums front to back. If you feel you really want to release an album do a waterfall release. Release each song or most of the songs as singles, followed by content to promote these singles

Algorithm

We can spend an eternity talking about the Spotify algorithm but I’ll just drop my main points. Release Radar is huge, this notifies your fans that new music has dropped and puts you in a playlist with all of their other favorite artists new music. Collabs are huge, collabs and features give the opportunity to share listeners, it gets your name in front of a whole new audience as well as lets you connect with another artist.

If you’ve gotten to the end of this thank you for reading. Just a reminder that I am in no way an expert on any of this and am just sharing information I’ve learned from others in my community that I found interesting and helpful.
